I was surprised to see this Killdeer on a walk the other day. It was hanging out in an empty field… so far away from it’s natural habitat! I’ve never seen one not on the water.

How interesting! I’ve always thought of them as shorebirds because that’s the only place that I’ve seen them but apparently that’s just not true! Thanks for the info. It changes my views on Killdear.

In baton rouge LA there was a couple defending their nest which was in grass along the parking lot of the airport tower. The controllers put cones nearby to alert drivers! It was fascinating to watch their wounded wing display to distract people from the nest.

Oh I’m so jealous! I would love to see that display since I hear it’s really amazing.
I think it’s great that the airport took such an interest in protecting birds. Some airports go through and try to kill all the birds so it’s nice to hear that some airports try to protect their birds instead.
