Thank you very much JJ for the Nikon P600 how to use the bird watching setting. Recently got a P600 – used it almost exclusively on April 2015 birding trip to Portugal. I’m as you said a birder who enjoys taking photos. Had a dslr with me, but it never left the bag after the first day. I knew there was a bid watching setting – but couldn’t find it. I just went thru your very helpful article – I’m going to get some practice using the setting – really looking forward to getting the most out of the P600. If interested you can view the P600 here – you’ll see the Portugual_birds album:

I’m glad to hear that my article helped you! I really like my camera and I hope that it works well for you too!
I’m not sure if I would get something with a 83x zoom because once I get past 50x, my hands shake too much to actually hold the camera and keep the subject in the frame all the time. I actually don’t zoom in all the way and crop the images later. Better to be safe than get a shot of only half a bird! I would think that you would need to travel with a monopod to be able to use the 83x zoom, but maybe it would be worth it. Thanks for the link, I’ll see how he likes it.
