This is my favorite of the latest hummingbird watercolors because it seems to capture the same watchful position that the hummingbirds take in my backyard. I also really enjoy how the color blends together at the base of the head and the top of the stick.
Supplies used: Epson Perfection V600, Pentel Arts Aquash Water Brushes, Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Set, Staedtler Mars Technical Lead Holder
Very lovely! Do you remember how you mixed those purples? I have a Cotman set too but it’s the 12 pan. Maybe you have a broader range. Or maybe I’ve never tried the right combo of pans. That purple is very nice. A great interpretation of the hummingbird.

Thanks!
I think the base is Ultramarine, Crimson Red, with a hint of Cerulean Blue and Ivory Black (to make it a little more dull). The upper left part of the head has a little Burnt Sienna and Cadmium Red in it to mimic the shine you get on the head feathers.
I only have the 12 tube set too. I haven’t really needed a larger one yet. Most of my paints use the following colors: Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Viridian, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine and Ivory Black.
Hope that helps!
