Hummingbirds burn food so fast they often eat 1-1/2 to 3 times their weight in nectar and insects per day. During migration they use up their body fat and can starve to death if they don’t find food on the way. Torpor saves them from starving at night. Wish I was a bit more like a hummer. Looks like this is an Anna’ hummingbird. Is it?.
