I hope you don’t find my comment annoying or showing that I am missing your point. Do you shoot in RAW and use Lightroom? If you do it should be possible to bring out this flycatcher’s eye a bit. Only if you want to of course. 🙂

My camera doesn’t shoot in RAW. I adjust levels in Photoshop sometimes because I know it better than Lightroom. Sometimes there just isn’t the data there to make something like this brighter and look ok… I don’t mind in this case because it makes the bird look so edgy and emo. 🙂
