Flowers of Gold

Goldfinches
I’m doing a watercolor for my niece for Christmas. She’s a huge fan of goldfinches and she’s getting into art, so I thought that she would like a watercolor of goldfinches for Christmas. I’m not done yet, but here is the inked portion.

I’ve done it on Arches cold-press paper and this is in the first time I’ve tried to use microns on it. The ink didn’t absorb into the paper as much as I would have liked, so I had to go over the lines several times. I think I’ll increase the size of the pens I use next time.

I’ll keep you posted once I’ve applied the watercolor.

A Little Brown Bird

House Sparrow Watercolor

I was at the beach the other day watching little brown sparrows hopping around. I really liked the play of the brown rocks covered with brown birds with the bright blue ocean in the background, so I wanted to see if I could replicate that feeling without actually painting an ocean. I hope you enjoy!

Big Eyes

Titmouse

After starting my top 100 series, I realized that some of the little brown birds of San Diego can be a little boring to draw… so I decided to try to make them a little more fun by stylizing them. Here is my new take on a Titmouse vs last week’s.

This was significantly more fun to draw. 🙂
