On the Wire
A bunch of seagulls taking a break hanging out watching the ocean. Reminds me of that game, telephone!

Anyone else feel uncomfortable about how intensely this seagull is staring at me?
Little delicate song birds chirp this adorable chirps… whereas seagulls sound the like the equivalent of some angry guy saying, “HEY!”
Is it only me, but when birds stand on one foot they look like they are standing on a pogo stick?
Seagull are the ultimate beach bums, right?!? All they do is hang out watching the ocean and eating when they feel like it.
Sounds like a pretty good life to me.
A seagull pops his head up into my artistic shot of blurry shorebirds wading in the surf. This bird totally has the impression of saying “Hey, watcha doin’?”
A shot of a seagull that I took while in Venice a few months ago. It’s funny that I immediately didn’t recognize that this was Italy and not California. I guess a seagull sitting on a wooden post in the water is a pretty universal image.
Another version of my Gulls on the Pier. I wanted to see what it would look like with the drawing gum technique around the edge of the background. I don’t love the water or the shading as much as the first one, but I wanted to see what it would look like before I tried it out on nicer paper.
I’m thinking of doing a ‘gulls sitting on stuff’ series. I don’t know why, but it’s so amusing to me to go to the beach and see gulls sitting on every single possible surface. They are very versatile creatures. 🙂
Ok, so I’m going to go off on a little bit of a film geek tangent, but this shot seems so dramatic that it reminds me of a deep focus shot that they used all the time in classic films… the most famous usage of deep focus in a movie?!?
Citizen Kane of course!
But seriously, if you haven’t watched Citizen Kane, you probably should since it’s always in the top movies lists… if not to only laugh at what “Rosebud” really means.
Oh, and when I was trying to find this specific clip for this post, I stumbled across this clip instead and I think it’s probably more entertaining than the actual movie is. Enjoy.
