Speckles and Spots
The coloring on this Allen’s Hummingbird is so fascinating! It’s almost a dalmatian!
Rainbows
Rare to see an Allen’s/Rufous Hummingbird around at this time of the year, but I managed to get a shot of this one before it flew off.
Coming in for a Landing
An Allen’s/Rufous Hummingbird coming in for a landing on my Kangaroo Paws.
Drive Through
Grabbing a quick snack from the first of the Kangaroo Paws to open up. Do you ever think of flowers as drive through fast food for hummingbirds? Because that’s all I ever think of when I see them. 🙂
Stained Glass
Trying something different with this one. It kinda reminds me of 20s stained glass for some reason.

Grumpy
A grumpy little hummingbird also inspired by my Chinese Brush Painting class. I’m trying to blend my current style with it and see what comes of it. Hope you like it.

Brush
I’ve been taking a Chinese brush painting class taught by Jean Shen at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library in La Jolla. Although I haven’t really learned enough to paint a proper bird painting using Chinese brush painting strokes, I thought it would be fun to try to meld the techniques into my own type of work to see what comes of it.
Once I learn enough to do an actual brush painting, I’ll post it!
Supplies: Pentel Arts Water Brushes, Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Set, Canson Sketch Pad 5.5 x 8.
Rufous Flash
Next in my series of hummers using my new technique, here is an Allen’s. I did this one slightly different and tried going back in once it was partially dried and added some more color since it felt a little flat. I’m not sure if I like it better or not. Thoughts?
