Sitting bored at an intersection today, I saw the most beautiful white tailed Kite hunting. It flew around and would hover perfectly in one spot with its powerful wings. I was completely mesmorized.
It took me a while to figure out what it was. Having seen a barn owl in the same area, at first I thought it was one but it’s maneuvering quickly convinced me otherwise. Once I saw it in profile, I immediately knew it could be an owl since the face shape wasn’t correct. It didn’t take long to look it up once I got home because the bird is so distinctive. Not many hawk-like birds that at white with tan around its neck.
I drew this sketch from the below YouTube video since I didn’t have my sketchbook at the time. This is my first hawk-like bird sketch and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Hope you enjoy.
