I just discovered your blog a couple of days ago, and I’ve really been enjoying it as an avid birder and writer, it’s great to meet (even virtually) others who are so passionate about these wonderful creatures.
This is a fantastic photo of this heron (far better than I’ve been able to capture), but it’s actually a Black-crowned Night Heron–which is, I’ve found, a much harder bird to photograph than a Great Blue. Well done!

You’re 100% correct. I uploaded these in a huge batch the other day and my eyes must have been glazing over by this point.
So if you are ever up this way, you can for sure get a shot of one beauties. This guy is actually always in the same spot in the park, in front of the Oasis Deli and the Mombasa Cooker. I was actually there last week and there were three hanging out together, all looking equally annoyed.
